Odissi dance classes by Mitra Purkayastha
Mitra purkayastha, a renowned dancer in Odissi (Orissi) style has been
widely acclaimed as an accomplished dancer, choreographer and teacher.
She has been teaching in United States since 1979 and in New Jersey
since 1986 where she inaugerated her famous school "Rhythms of Dance
& Music."
Mitra herself started her career in dance as a child prodegy. She had an
intense training in the classical temple dance of Orissa, Odissi (Orissi)
under the supervision of Guru Padmasri Muralidhar Majhi. She is blessed
to be his disciple. She is also a disciple of Guru Khelendra Mukherjee in
Manipuri, the classical dance of Manipur. She had been one of the
principle dancers in Sangeet Natak Academy Winner, Manjusri Chaki
Sirkar's dance group in India until 1978, where she trained her in a distinct
technique of Indian contemporary choreography. Continued....
